How to download the Calendar of Events onto your Palm PDA

Overview:

Any listing of the calendar can be downloaded to your Palm Pilot PDA using AvantGo. The list of events can then be viewed on your Palm Pilot.

You will need a Palm Pilot PDA, a PC or Mac which you have configured to synch with the Palm Pilot, and the computer must be connected to the internet.

To set up your PC & Palm Pilot to download event listing:

1. Go to the home page of the AvantGo web site.

2. Sign up (its free!)

3. Install and configure AvantGo

  • on the computer that you use to synch your Palm Pilot (this means adding and configuring a conduit to your Palm Desktop), and
  • on your PalmPilot (where a mini web browser application will be installed).

4. Go to the Channels page of AvantGo and configure a personal channel that points to the Palm View page of the Calendar of events you wish to put on your Palm Pilot. (The button to start this is in the top right location on the page.) Note: You will need to increase the memory for the channel to about 400k to download the entire schedule and select 2 for the link depth.

Getting the Palm View:

Preconfigured Views

Palm view of Today's events http://events.ahsc.arizona.edu/palmview.php?timeframe=Today

Palm view of Tomorrow's events http://events.ahsc.arizona.edu/palmview.php?timeframe=Tomorrow

Custom View

1. Optionally, use the Find an Event feature to isolate the type of events you are interested.

2. From the page of event listings select Palm View link located near the foot of the listing page. The resulting URL should be entered into the personal channel in AvantGo.

5. The next time you synch your Palm Pilot the listing will be downloaded to your PalmPilot. Every time thereafter the listing on the Palm Pilot will be synched with that on the Calendar of Events web site so that your version of the listing will be current.

NOTE:

AvantGo can be used to download ANY web site (as long as you have enough memory) to the Palm, so you may find other uses for AvantGo.
